Palo Alto School of Chamber Music

The Palo Alto School of Chamber Music is a distinguished community music program dedicated to fostering the art of ensemble playing among musicians of all ages and skill levels. Established in 2015 by a group of passionate educators, the school offers a collaborative environment where students can develop their musical talents through chamber music. The school welcomes strings, woodwinds, and pianists, providing a platform for individuals to explore and express themselves through classical music.
Under the leadership of Director Claudia Bloom, a seasoned violinist with a rich background in performance and education, Palo Alto School of Chamber Music offers various programs tailored to different age groups and proficiency levels. These include the Allegro Ensemble, an orchestral group for musicians of all ages conducted by Stella Bonilla, and smaller chamber groups such as trios, quartets, and quintets, where students are matched according to age and experience level. Additionally, the school organizes a week-long Summer Camp, providing participants with opportunities to develop friendships and musicianship through intensive group sessions and performances.
The faculty at the school comprises accomplished musicians and educators, including Lucinda Breed Lenicheck, a cellist with over three decades of experience, and Virginia Smedberg, a violinist and violist with extensive performance and teaching credentials. Their collective expertise ensures that students receive high-quality instruction and mentorship, fostering both technical skills and a deep appreciation for the collaborative nature of chamber music.
Beyond instruction, Palo Alto School of Chamber Music emphasizes performance as a key component of its curriculum. Students regularly participate in recitals and community concerts, providing them with valuable stage experience and the opportunity to share their musical journey with the broader Palo Alto community. Through its comprehensive programs and dedicated faculty, the school continues to be a cornerstone of musical education and appreciation in the Bay Area.
